New Shoes
July 31, 2008
Well, I’ve ordered another pair of shoes. I don’t know if they are going to be dressy enough. But I currently don’t care because I am just that tired of looking at shoes. They’ve all started looking the same. But I kept coming back to this one pair. They are similar to a pair I already own. They weren’t that expensive. So I guess if they aren’t right for the wedding, I just add them to my collection of shoes. I don’t have a musical montage of shoes I looked at, no decision making, just the new shoes.
I don’t lurve them as much as the red satin heels, but they are very very cute and I’m hoping that they’ll win over my heart as soon as they arrive.
As for the red satin heels, they have not been put out to pasture. They have become the rehearsal dinner shoes. For this dress
The yellow version. I haven’t actually picked out the fabric yet. Nor do I have any ideas about what I want. I just know I’m wearing those awesome red shoes.
Wedding 180
July 29, 2008
Well, the wedding has taken a major turn around in the last week or so.
Let’s have some back ground here. I have been struggling with color choices for a while now. The more I looked for inspiration, the more I felt like my colors didn’t fit my chosen month…or really my personality for that matter. Too formal, too traditional. So I was trying to figure out how to make it work without upsetting the apple cart completely. I knew Matt would want to kill me if I even mentioned changing things. Especially since we bought print-at-home invitations in the original color scheme already. (Thank God these were seriously cheap!) So I was unhappy with some of my choices, but resigned to sticking with it because we’d already made some decisions and bought some things too.
Then, my future mother-in-law calls to tell me about some amazing orange and pink flowers she saw somewhere. In my head I’m thinking, “pink and orange are pretty, I like pink and orange. they are definitely more summer-y colors I wonder what matt will say he will kill me.”
Fast forward to the next day. We are in the car, going to see the new Batman movie. I decide it’s now or never.
me: “Honey… how do you feel about pink and orange?”
Matt: “for what?”
me: “the wedding”
Matt: “What about green and red, those were the best colors since sliced bread 6 weeks ago!!!”
I can see the veins bulging and his voice has taken on this tone that says “you ma’am are in serious trouble”
So I back peddle and explain myself.
Matt: “What about the invitations we already bought?”
me: “I’ll figure out something.”
turns out he figured out something before I did… the DIY pocketfold invitations which no longer match our color scheme will be making little folders for transporting the save the date magnet safely to the homes of our guests.
So then we argued about shades of pink because he didn’t want it to look like “strawberry shortcake’s high school reunion.” He wanted blue… yes, you read that right, blue and orange. If you don’t know us, Matt is an enormous Auburn University football fan and we live 45 minutes from Auburn. So, orange and blue in any combination makes us want to drink heavily and party hard…. but not exactly the vibe I’m going for at my wedding…. this is not a tailgate party. There will be no blue. Period.
I spent lots of time on the phone with Amber, my bridesmaid/flower expert. I sent her pictures upon pictures of flowers and she returned with more.
Still undecided upon actual shades of pink and orange, I decided to head to the bridal shop and pick out a new color for the bridesmaid’s dresses.
Remember these?
right, with hideous model still there… ok, that dress, in this color
was totally not working for me. Unfortunately, neither was any of the other 5 color choices this company offered. (Ok, maybe it was really more like 30, but still…blech)
So, my good friend Gina at Formal Elegance suggested we look at some Alfred Angelo swatches. Please remember that my dress is Alfred Angelo…so I already have a place in my heart for all things AA.
I still don’t think these pinks are going to flatter my ladies. This is very important to me. I’ve been a bride’s maid three times. Only one of those dresses was flattering to both my figure and my complexion. I want my ladies to be comfortable with these dresses.
I pout. Gina knows… she is the best. She goes to the rack and pulls out a lovely green gown and says “this color.” It’s AA’s clover and it’s perfect. It’s green enough to make Matt happy (no more strawberry shortcake), yet still summer-y enough to go well with pink and orange.
So, I returned to a dress I visited a long time ago. Gina pulled it off the rack and I put it on. It’s too small of course…but at least it gives me some idea. It’s perfect. It carries over enough elements from my dress to make me happy, it’s flattering to my figure, even when I pooch out my belly, and it’s still reasonably priced.
So, please let me introduce the new bridesmaid dresses…..!
Please understand that this green is much more lovely in person. It’s more grass and less…pastel.
Then I came home and showed the swatch to Matt. He likes the green. He still hates the pink and orange. Argh… Discussions about possible wedding invitations designs turn into large arguments.
We hashed it out though… and came up with something like this little jewel
the green border will actually be cardstock and the paper will be ivory instead of white.
He also wants to line the envelopes.
BTW, that green is much closer to the actual green of the dress. Actually, it’s a darn near perfect match!
I would upload my inspiration bouquet, but it’s copywrited and I’m nervous to post it online.
It’s full of color… it makes me very happy.
I don’t think I’m going to be wearing my red shoes to the wedding… but they will get worn to the rehearsal dinner instead. I also don’t think I’m going to be dying my crinoline green. Although I’m said about that part, it’s ok.
On with the hunt for new wedding shoes. We are seriously going for flats now.
Save the Date’s and other things too!
July 11, 2008
I’ve kinda been slacking on things. We were out of town for 7 days…but that’s no excuse! Anyway, save the date’s are in..
They aren’t as easy to read in real life as they are online, which is a little depressing. But we are thinking of adding a little card to the envelope so there is no confusion.
They are cute anyway… and they weren’t all that expensive.
In other news, we bought our invitations a few weeks ago… for 56 cents a piece!!!
This makes me very happy!!!
They are a little plain and boring though, so I’m working on some ideas to jazz them up a bit, you know, make them ours…
I’d post a picture, but my computer is giving me major lip this evening!!!
